Free talk on growing your own in Claregalway

Michael Kelly, founder of Grow it Yourself (GIY ) will give a talk entitled ‘Sow Seeds, Harvest Change — five vegetables you can grow to change your life and save the world’ in The Arches Hotel, Claregalway, on Tuesday April 16 at 8pm. This is a free event which aims to inspire people to grow their own vegetables.

Michael Kelly is a freelance journalist, author, and social entrepreneur. He established GIY in 2009. Mr Kelly is an Ashoka fellow, a Social Entrepreneurs Ireland awardee, and a recipient of the inaugural 2010 Arthur Guinness Fund. He is a member of the TASTE Council of Ireland. He writes columns for the Irish Independent, the Evening Echo, and Food & Wine magazine. He has written two books on self sufficiency — Trading Paces and Tales From The Home Farm (O’Brien Press ).

Mr Kelly is a passionate speaker on food issues, self-sufficiency, sustainability, and growing your own food. He worked for 10 years in the IT industry in Dublin but now lives the good life in Dunmore East, Co Waterford, with his wife and two children.

GIY promotes a healthier, more sustainable, world where people grow their own food. GIY inspires and supports people — from beginners to old hands — to grow their own by bringing them together in community groups and online to share tips, ideas, and produce. There are approximately 100 GIY groups and 40,000 people involved in the movement around Ireland. GIY is a registered charity (CH 18920 ).
