The catwalk look

Being a fashion week regular, I am very lucky to see, first hand, what we can expect from trends to colours, a season in advance. Back in September I sat at numerous shows including Issa, John Rocha, and Topshop Unique, getting the lowdown on spring summer 2013. Now that it is here, I have seen all those trends like monochrome and sports luxe translate to the high street. But let’s start at the beginning and take a closer look at those who create the trends we now find in our wardrobes.

Issa

I talk about Issa quite a bit, simply because the label embodies everything I love about fashion — elegance. The inspiration for the current collection was the Garden of Eden; full of florals, with a real Polynesian feel to the show. Floating dresses adorned with colourful tropical prints are the perfect look for a balmy summer evening, complemented with hair accessories like jewels and lots of accessories. Paired with sandals or flip flops, no other collection will inspire you to book a holiday in the sun.

Topshop Unique

A futuristic collection, full of clean lines, muted colours, and lots of metallics. One of my favourite shows every season, Topshop Unique attracts a front row of celebs every time. With a backdrop of what can only be described as something that belongs in the new Star Trek movie, the futuristic feel creates a simple, pared back, look for spring summer. The palette is centred around creams, soft rose, and shimmery silver (white jacket, Topshop spring summer 2013 collection ).

Mary Katrantzou

The queen of prints, also known as Mary Katrantzou, has the most amazing ability to turn the most routine things about life into fascinating prints. Originally sponsored by the Topshop NEWGEN scheme (which looks after Simone Rocha ), Mary Katrantzou has catapulted to fame over the last two seasons. Take a closer look at her prints and see just what inspires this talented designer (pictured, dress, €1,700, from the spring summer 2013 collection ). Mary Katrantzou is available at Brown Thomas Dublin.

Victoria Beckham

She came to Dublin last year to talk to customers about her life in the fashion lane, with Harper close by her side. Victoria Beckham has found her calling, and her current collection is rather expensive but worth the fabric. My favourite piece is a black mini dress, a wardrobe staple, with pleated detailing and cinched in waist (black mini dress, €2,450 ). Victoria herself has been spotted in this dress. Brian Atwood

We cannot forget main piece of all outfits — the shoes. Brian Atwood is a name familiar to all shoe lovers, and a name synonymous with cutting edge shoe designs. Black is the main colour of his current collection, and if you like platforms, then you will just love these (shoe boot, €465 ).
