WRITERS FROM the Vilenica International Literary Festival in Slovenia are coming to the Cúirt International Festival of Literature as part of the Crossroads of European Literature project.
The official launch of the Crossroads project takes place in City Hall, College Road, on Tuesday April 23 at 12 noon, followed by a literary outing and reception at Moran’s of the Weir, Kilcolgan.
This EU sponsored programme has been in existence since 1986 in Slovenia and is run by the Slovenian Writers Association.
Slovenian writers Suzana Tratnik and Dusan Sarotar arrive in County Galway next week to begin their two week residency. Suzana is a writer, journalist, essayist and translator who has published several short story collections and novels. Dusan Sarotar is a literary critic and editor. He also wrote the novel Billiards at the Hotel Dobray, an account of the persecution of the Jews, based upon his grandfather’s experiences in Muska Sobota.
Each writer will spend time in Clifden and in Galway, including taking part in a seminar discussion on the future of European literature and the challenges facing authors writing as Gaelic and in Slovene.
The panel discussion takes place in The Slate Room, Busker Browne’s, on Tuesday April 23 at 6.30pm. Admission is free.
