IRELAND’S ONLY viola quintet, the Altissimo Quintet, will give their debut Galway concert next week, performing music by Brahms and Dvorak, as well as premiering a new work.
The quintet - Joanne Quigley, Paul O’Hanlon, Adèle Johnson, Errika Horsley, and Martin Johnson - will perform their concert New World - Old World on Tuesday April 9 in The Ballroom, Hotel Meyrick, at 8pm.
Alongside Brahms’ String Quintet No 2 and Dvorak’s ‘American Quintet’, which the Czech composer wrote during a holiday in Spillville, Iowa, Altissimo will give the world premiere of Stephen Gardner’s ‘Bicycles’, an eight-minute piece specially composed for the ensemble.
