A drunk driver who caused gardaí to brake sharply after he pulled out in front of them was before Ballina District Court this week.
On April 5 2012 on Main Street, Crossmolina at 7.15pm, gardaí who were on patrol observed Eamonn Birrane, Knockananny, Garranard, Crossmolina, pull out sharply in front of them. The Garda car had to brake sharply to avoid hitting him. Gardaí followed him and he was stopped and was arrested for drink driving. A breath sample provided was 70mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
The 62-year-old man has no previous road traffic convictions. The defendant is now not longer drinking.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €450 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
