Nominations to identify outstanding young people in Mayo are in their final week as part of a competition currently being run by Junior Chamber International (JCI ) Mayo, in association with the Mayo Advertiser and AIB.
The Outstanding Young Person of the Year competition is a drive to identify young people aged 18 to 40 for their dynamism and enthusiasm in their fields, and last year a Mayo winner took one of the top awards on the world stage. Aisling Neary was named as a 2012 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World for her extraordinary work in international healthcare and education for the underprivileged.
If you know someone who can follow in Aisling Neary’s footsteps there are 10 categories under which nominations can be made, relating to the fields of business; politics; academic achievements; culture; moral/environmental leadership; contribution to children/world peace/human rights; humanitarian/voluntary leadership; scientific/technological development; personal improvement /accomplishment; and medical innovation.
Winners of these awards locally will get the chance to be selected for the national and world title of Most Outstanding Young Person. A local awards ceremony in which local winners will receive a commemorative trophy and be recognised by their peers will also be held.
This competition is free to enter. Members of the public are now invited to take some time to show someone you admire that you respect what he/she does and believe his/her contribution should be recognised. Deborah McAndrew, president of JCI Mayo, added: “These outstanding young people are based in Mayo as was proven by the world title which was won by Castlebar woman Aisling Neary last year. We just need to shine a light and let them be seen.”
Send in your nominations now giving name of nominee and reason why you believe he/she is worthy of an award to [email protected]
Alternatively, full nomination forms are available if you email [email protected] or check out JCI Mayo on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter. Deadline is April 1 2013.
