A exhibition examining Galway’s past and present and entitled “Architecture in Space and Time” is taking place at City Hall.
It is a collaboration between Galway City Council, Tom Kenny of the Kenny Gallery, Youth Work Ireland and Galway Mayo Institute of Technology.
The event celebrates the memories and everyday life of the streets, public spaces and buildings in the city.
This intergenerational project is funded by the Galway City Council’s housing department with assistance from Cope, Youth Work Ireland and GMIT.
Emphasis is placed on encouraging the public to recognise what is familiar and the subtleties of what has changed with the aim of increasing awareness and appreciation of the built environment.
The exhibition is a starting point to encourage local people to share their memories and opinions about local architecture and to open up public dialogue on the subject.
Visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to comment on the event by leaving a message in a special book and by emailing architects@ galwaycity.ie The exhibition runs in City Hall until April 2 and is open from 9am to 4pm on week days. It travels to Ballybane Library on Wednesday and to Westside Library on April 22.
