Galway County Integration and Diversity Strategy to be launched tomorrow

Tomorrow (Friday ) will see the launch of the Galway County Integration and Diversity Strategy 2013-2017.

The strategy will be launched by Minister for Training & Skills Ciaran Cannon in Oranmore Library at 3pm. Keynote speaker at the event will be Dr Ciara Smyth of the Law Department in NUI Galway.

Other speakers on the day include Jipe Kelly of The Integration Centre; Maria Manuela Silva, chair of the County Galway Intercultural Forum; and Delia Colahan, chair of the Integration and Diversity Interagency Group.

The event will also include multicultural entertainment and refreshments as well as an information session outlining the resources available for those from minority ethnic communities.

Sports coaches will be available to entertain young people from 2.30pm to 4pm at the astroturf pitch in Oranmore.

The County Galway Integration and Diversity Interagency Group is a partnership of community, local development, local authority, statutory, and voluntary organisations which, under the chair of Delia Colohan, chief executive officer of Galway Rural Development Co Ltd, worked on developing the strategy. Funding for the strategy came from the Office of the Minister for Integration, now the Office for the Promotion of Migrant Integration. The interagency group is strongly committed to implementing key actions which will assist in enhancing diversity and promoting interculturalism in County Galway.
