Annual charity ride and dog walk to take place in Clifden this weekend

The third annual charity ride and dog walk will take place in Clifden this Saturday. The event, first started by Joe McNamara in memory of his wife Margaret McNamara, will this year aim to raise funds for the GSPCA.

The first charity ride raised €7,000 for the Galway Hospice, in appreciation of the help and support the hospice showed Margaret McNamara and her family during her illness. The following year it was decided that Ability West be the charity benefiting, as Margaret had worked for Ability West for 25 years. The second event was also a success and a cheque for €6,000 was donated to the charity.

Each year this event benefits from the generosity of people in giving their time or donations, and the organisers wish to thank SuperValu and The Oil Company petrol station, which have supported the event every year.

This year the charity ride and dog walk is in aid of the Galway Society Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, as Margaret McNamara was a dog lover and devoted much of her time to her pets.

The trek will leave the Showgrounds in Clifden at 12 noon, taking in the scenic Sky Road before returning to the Showgrounds where there will be a barbecue and refreshments.

All are welcome.
