Galway City Harriers athletes Brian O’Connor and Regina Casey took the honours in a hilly 10k course on Sunday in the Clonbur/ Cong area in a race in aid of the Zambia Housing Project.
O’Connor led from the gun, but found himself with a battle on his hands at 7km mark when joined by Noel Gibbons. An sprint finish saw O’Connor hold off his challenger for a three-second win in 36.27.
The returning Regina Casey ran a superb 39.40 on her first outing in months and will be looking to build on this performance as she attempts to regain her status as the top female athlete in the county over the coming season.
