Sligo-based ProTek Group has acquired the business of Galway medical device design firm AP Design, specialists in new product development for medical device companies.
The acquisition brings a suite of additional resources to ProTek’s current product and service capabilities and will allow increased expansion, both nationally and internationally, of the company in the coming months and years.
Protek Medical is one of Ireland’s leading contract manufacturing providers to Medical Device OEM’s. Employing 125 people at its Sligo facility, the company specialise in injection moulding components for critical care medical device applications such as, Balloon and Stent Catheters used in minimally invasive cardiovascular surgeries.
“Along with establishing a dedicated Galway facility, the acquisition expands our product offering to provide award winning design capability and firmly position ProTek for future growth opportunities.” says Frank Boyle, ProTek Medical Managing Director.
AP Design has been providing product design services to the medical device industry since 2006. The company’s Director, Des Regan will now assume the role of Design Director at ProTek Medical while continuing to remain in the Galway facility. Des has extensive design expertise having previously worked in senior design roles in BMR, Aerogen and Covidien.
Commenting on the acquisition, Des Regan, Design Director says “The acquisition will create a platform with an established company and brand to grow and support our existing customers.
