Sean Breathnach of Galway City Harriers continues to lead the way in Ireland’s shot put event.
At the weekend’s Irish Indoor Championships in Athlone, Breathnach won the senior men’s event with a massive throw of 16.75m.
In addition to it being a new personal best for him - his previous best was 16.67m from 2010 - his winning throw was the seventh longest in Irish history.
Gort 4 Mile Race
In Gort the annual Gort 4 Mile Race took place, organised by the South Galway Athletics Club.
Winners in the men’s event were Julio Casar (Kilmurry Ibrackane ) followed by Mairtin Grealish (Ennis Track ), and Billy King (GCH ).while
The women’s event was won by Anna Crooks (Ennis Track ), with Craughwell’s Mary Keary in second place, followed home by Lisa McTigue (club unknown ).
Action locally sees the Kilconieron 5 Mile Road Race taking off at 12 noon on Sunday.
