Artists sought for forthcoming exhibition

ARTISTS ARE sought to take part in and contribute to an exhibition exploring body issues, and attitudes to expectations of body image.

The NUI Galway Feminist Society will host the Glorious Freaks: Bodies as sites of emotional expression exhibition from March 4 to 8 in the university’s Quad Gallery. It will be open to the public, as well as students.

Artists interested in taking part should get in touch with Catherine Morrow through [email protected]. No commission will be charged. The deadline for submissions is Friday March 1.

In a statement, FemSoc said: “Non-realistic images of ideal body-shapes invade our field of vision constantly. A recent Irish survey among young people found that 70 per cent of girls and 46 per cent of boys feel pressurised to look good for other people. Uncertainty about our body image interferes with our socialisation and can lead to isolation, eating disorders and depression”

The exhibition will be part of events in Galway to mark International Women’s Day on Friday March 8.
