SPARKS WILL fly when We Banjo 3, featuring Galway virtuosos Enda and Fergal Scahill, team up with Dublin roots band I Draw Slow for a concert at An Taibhdhearc.
Despite the name, We Banjo 3 are in fact, a quartet, albeit one featuring three banjo players. The line up is David Howley (banjo/guitar/vocals ), Martin Howley (banjo/mandolin/tenor guitar ), Enda Scahill (banjo/mandolin/tenor guitar ), and Fergal Scahill (fiddle/guitar/bodhrán/percussion ).
American music critic Bill Margeson has called them “terrific...wonderful musicianship of the first order. Best of all, they are different”. The band play Irish folk and trad, old-time Americana, ragtime, and bluegrass. Their début album, Roots Of The Banjo Tree, was The Irish Times best trad album for 2012.
Dublin’s I Draw Slow - Louise Holden (vocals ), Dave Holden (vocals/guitar ), Colin Derham (banjo ), Adrian Hart (fiddle ), Konrad Liddy (double bass ) - play Appalachian and Irish traditional music. Their most second album, Redhills, was an RTÉ album of the week and enjoyed great sales in Ireland.
Hotpress said the band “sing with a real sense of joy, never letting the virtuosity get in the way of delivering delicious performances”.
The show takes place on Thursday February 28 at 8pm. Tickets are €15 from An Taibhdhearc through 091 - 562024 or email [email protected]
