GALWAY’S BLUE Teapot Theatre Company have been nominated of an Irish Times Theatre Award 2012 and for a Aontas STAR (Connacht Region ) Award.
The Irish Times award is under the category of ‘Judges Special Award’, in recognition of Blue Teapot “giving a voice in theatre to actors with intellectual disabilities” and follows the company’s production of Christian O’Reilly’s Sanctuary.
The ceremony takes place at The Royal Hospital Kilmainham this Sunday. A contingent from Blue Teapot will be there to represent the company including director, Petal Pilley, and actors Kieran Coppinger and Charlene Kelly.
The Aontas STAR Award comes on the back of Blue Teapot’s Performing Arts School successfully delivering FETAC Level 2 & 3 arts education programmes since 2011 as well as Bright Soul, its Outreach programme. The awards ceremony takes place at the Burlington Hotel on
Monday.
“This is a wonderful affirmation of Blue Teapot and the talent of its actors,” said Petal Pilley. “It validates their creative contribution to theatre in Ireland at a national level. It is all the more potent because it recognises them as equals to their peers in the world of Irish theatre.”
