Green and white bollards are needed on regional roads around County Galway to act as “a very visible warning to drivers of side roads ahead”.
This is the view of Independent councillor for the Oranmore Electoral Area, Jim Cuddy. He is calling on the Galway County Council to seek funding for the bollards, arguing that they will “greatly enhance road safety”.
Cllr Cuddy says green and white bollards are used on national primary and national secondary roads, and at the monthly Oranmore area meeting, which took place on Monday, he called for their introduction on all regional roads.
“These bollards are relatively low cost given the significant improvement they make to road safety,” he said.
He has requested that the Galway County Council seek funding from the Department of the Environment.
