Fine Gael Galway senator, Fidelma Healy Eames, has appealed to property owners in the Oranmore, Clarinbridge, Castlegar, Claregalway areas and the hinterland to consider making available under-utilised buildings for a Galway Young Creators Centre.
The centre, which is a not-for-profit hub dedicated to youth creativity and development, is aimed at youngsters in Galway and the west of Ireland. The voluntary committee of Galway Young Creators Centre is calling on property owners to consider putting forward their under-utilised building(s ) for this very worthy social enterprise.
“As founder of the Galway Young Creators Centre, I would urge anyone who has this type of facility at their disposal to consider making it available to us. I believe that in these challenging times, the centre would act as a cultural and learning hub, developing creative gifts and talents, tackling disadvantage, and making a real difference to young people’s futures.
“The committee is willing to fund the renovation and kitting out of the centre. We require a lease of six years minimum in a prominent and easily accessible building, or part of a building, of up to approximately 10,000sq ft.
“The business plan for the project is nearing completion. Areas of specialisation in the first phase will include: Creative thinking and creative writing; maths and logic; language learning; digital hub and a learning how to learn hub. Research shows that these are all areas in which we need to develop.”
Senator Healy Eames concluded: “The project will bring a positive spark to any community and could act as an important area regenerator. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, we call on property owners to get in touch with details of any suitable opportunities.”
