FATHER TED, the classic 1990s comedy series, will be celebrated this month at the annual TedFest in Galway city.
TedFest begins on Monday February 18 at 8.30pm with the Fr Ted Table Quiz in Massimo, William Street West. All questions will be Father Ted related. There will be prizes for best beard and team name. Teams are a maximum of four people. Entry is €30/25.
The five-a-side inter pub football tournament takes place in Fr Burke Park at 3pm on Tuesday 19 with an after party, Mrs Doyle’s G & Tea Party, in The Blue Note from 7pm. Entries are via Malachy in The Blue Note.
The 2013 Toilet Duck Awards takes place on Wednesday 20 at 8.30pm in the Róisín Dubh and will be hosted by Joe Rooney, who played Fr Damo in the series, and a surprise guest.
The night will feature eight hand picked stand-up comics, each doing a seven minute set, battling it out until there is only one left standing to take away the cash prize and a series of gigs.
On Thursday 21 from 8pm it is The Big City Ball in the Róisín, featuring The Hairy Bowsies (Ding Dong Denny O’Reilly and Scribbler O’Donohue ), Frank Sanazi, and the Lovely Girls Competition.
The Bowsies will play such songs as ‘Animals Are Bastards’, ‘Kate Middleton’s Tits’ and ‘The Craic We Had The Day We Died For Ireland’. Frank Sanazi is a combination of Vegas era Sinatra and Adolf Hitler, who will croon his way through songs entitled ‘Third Reich’ and the terrorist ode ‘Strangers On My Flight’.
In the Lovely Girls Competition, three women will battle it out for the title of Miss Lovely girl 2013. The prize is a meal with host Danny Dowling (which the lady must pay for ).
All events are fancy dress with prizes for the best outfits, including tickets to Róisín Dubh events and dinner for two in Eat@Massimo.
