THE SONGS published by the United Irishmen in the late 1700s will be the subject of a public lecture in Galway next week.
Author and archivist Terry Moylan will give the talk, entitled Paddy’s Resource – The Songsters of the Society of United Irishmen, in the Galway City Library on Tuesday February 19 at 6.30pm.
The lecture is the first of this year’s Martin Reilly Lecture Series presented by Comhrá Ceoil and the Centre for Irish Studies at NUI Galway.
Mr Bradley will explore the content of the four editions of Paddy’s Resource/The Harp of Erin, the songbooks published by the United Irishmen. He will look at the songs in terms of language, iconography, their political message, and the range of tunes to which the songs were set.
Admission is free. For more information email [email protected]
