ARGO is in the news this week after scooping the Best Film BAFTA and will probably have greater glory next week in LA. Directed by and starring Ben Affleck he pulls off a comical and brilliant performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w918Eh3fij0
Produced by Ben Affleck, Grant Heslov, and George Clooney, the film is based on the Iran hostage crisis in 1979. It follows Tony Mendez, who works for the CIA, and who has to lead the rescue of six US officials from Tehran during the crisis.
The officials are hiding with the Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor after escaping from the US embassy whilst it was overun by a pro-Ayatollah mob.
Mendez comes up with a plan to rescue the six officials, which he claims to be their "best bad idea" . The storyline is fast paced and pans out in an oddly uncomplicated way. The script is marvellous, bringing humour into a film with a serious basis.
Argo is a well acted, intriuging, and engaging movie, whether you have an interest in the Iran hostage crisis or not. This movie has a realistic edge and gives an insight into the threatening tensions between Iran and ths US at the time.
From nailbiting to laugh out loud, this film has everything and is well worth catching.
