A trio of events from artist Áine Phillips

THE ARTIST Áine Phillips will host a trio of events this weekend, featuring exhibitions, a performance, and a panel discussion.

The events begin this evening at 7pm with a performance of Spectral in The Cube, Áras na MacLeinn, NUI Galway, where Phillips will use biographically sourced images and actions to explore the limits of sanity and human freedom.

Tomorrow, from 10am to 5pm, The Cube will host All Collaborators Will Be Shot! This presentation, from NUIG’s Múscailt arts festival and the Burren College of Art, is a national seminar on interdisciplinary artistic collaboration, convened by Dr Áine Phillips.

There will be group and panel discussions on artistic collaboration, sound art and socially engaged practice, film and popular culture, performance, live art, and photography.

Speakers include London based film maker and academic Rachel Davies; London based photographer and live artist Manuel Vason; Galway artists and film-makers Megs Morley and Tom Flanagan; and Limerick artist Sean Taylor. Admission is free but advance booking is essential through [email protected]

Also on Friday at 6pm in the Galway Arts Centre, is the opening of the Invisible Knowledge exhibition. This is a series of collaborations Phillips made with the artists Vivienne Dick, Manuel Vason, Tom Flanagan, Nada Zgank, Rachel Davies, and Alex Chaise White.

Invisible Knowledge explores ideas of confinement and escape through portraits of lost girls, elegantly dressed trees, and articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It runs until Saturday March 2.
