CANTERBURY WAS at the centre of English psychedelia in the late 1960s and early 1970s, being home to the melodic Caravan and the “out bloody rageous” Soft Machine.
It is a period of music which Canterbury based band Syd Arthur love - while their name recalls other period (if not Kentish ) heroes Syd Barrett and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.
None of this is to say that they have their heads stuck in the past. The band engineer, produce, and mix themselves, using an innovative hybrid of analogue and digital techniques. They are also inspired by contempory bands Wolf People, Black Mountain, and Tame Impala. What transpires is a sweet mix of bucolic folk and indie rock.
