Dance event in aid of One Billion Rising campaign

Involve Salthill Youth Project and Galway Rape Crisis Centre are hosting a dance event on Sunday February 10 from 3pm until 5pm in the Galway Arts Centre as part of the One Billion Rising campaign.

One Billion Rising began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world’s population at seven billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.

Involve Salthill and the Galway Rape Crisis Centre will join with women and men across the world who are joining collectively to call for an end to violence against women.

Galway Dance Academy will be there on the day to teach participants a few moves and there will be a dance display by Galway Belly Dance. The participants of the Involve Youth Project will also be performing the Break the Chain, official campaign dance.

With so many negative stories of horrendous acts of violence being reported daily in the media the young people involved feel this is an opportunity for the people of Galway to send out a positve and strong message that violence against women is unacceptable and to stand in solidarity with survivors of rape and sexual violence all round the world.

The public are welcome and take part on the day. For more information log on to http://onebillionrising.org
