Attempted break-ins in Abbeyknockmoy and Portumna

ardaí have launched an investigation following attempted burglaries at two business premises in Abbeyknockmoy and Portumna in the early hours of yesterday. It is believed both incidents involved the same culprits.

The first burglary occurred at O’Donohoe’s shop and petrol station in Abbeyknockmoy at around 1am. Four men wearing balaclavas stole a small quantity of cigarettes from the shop, but fled the scene when they were disturbed by the owner, who fired a shot in the incident.

Later, at 2.30am, gardaí were called to the Gala Express shop and service station in Portumna regarding an attempted break-in. On arrival the gardaí were confronted by four men wearing balaclavas who threw rocks and other missiles at them before escaping in a black car, possibly an Audi, towards Borrisokane.
