Be protected using a mouthguard from Abbeytrinity Dental

At Abbeytrinity Dental Practice they regularly see dental injuries which would have been prevented by a mouthguard. Some are of an extreme nature and have a profound effect both dentally and financially.

A change in the sporting culture is needed to ensure that everybody protects their smile and wears their mouthguards. The GAA are working hard to effect this change and since January 1 all Gaelic Football players (grades up to and including Minor ) are required to wear a mouthguard in all games and training sessions.

Dental trauma injuries in children and young adults, often resulting from simple accidental collisions on the pitch, can have a long-lasting impact on their developing teeth and jaws, their self-esteem and family finances. A mouthguard should be considered as just another part of a player’s essential kit.

As dentists we recommend custom fitted mouthguards over any other type as they provide the best fit and therefore the best protection from: fractured teeth; cuts and bruises to the lips, tongue and cheeks; and there is also strong evidence that they can help prevent concussion and jaw fractures.

Dr John Burke BDS, Abbeytrinity Dental Practice, High Street, Tuam, Co Galway is currently running a special offer on mouthguards for children and teenagers, see their advert or telephone 093-60333.
