Teachers, parents and past pupils of Scoil Bhride will have a last chance to walk the corridors, sit in their desks and take phoptographs in their school next week, before the school is demolished and replaced by a brand new building.
Scoil Bhride is one of two schools in Galway that got approval for a new school building in the latest review from the Department of Education. The existing school building is being knocked down and a state of the art building is being built on the existing site. The Aras is staying as is and is currently being updated by the OPW. The school will be using it as a playground during the day, but it will be free, as usual, in the evenings.
After a meeting with the OPW and parents on November 21, the needs of the new school were discussed and the budget presented. In order to have the basic needs of the pupils met, approximately €60,000 will need to be raised. As a result, Scoil Bhríde has decided to appoint a special short-term project group, Meitheal Tacaíochta Scoil Bhríde.
The word “Meitheal” means a group of people and “Taíocht” means support will hold a series of events to raise the funds over the next 18 months.
In order to allow people to say farewell to the Menlo school, Meitheal Tacaíochta Scoil Bhríde, the Fundraising Committee for Scoil Bhríde, Menlo, is organizing a “farewell” and celebratory evening for the existing school building.
The event will take place on Saturday, February 2 2013, from 2-8pm in the school. The school community of past, present and future pupils are invited to visit their old classrooms and view photographs taken over the years by current and previous principals and teachers. It will truly be a trip down memory lane!
Fr Michael Reilly PP will celebrate Mass in the school at 6pm and the service will be followed by tea and light refreshments.
