Where to recycle your Christmas tree

Galway’s local authorities will provide a Christmas tree recycling service this month, with drop off points around the city and county where people can deposit their trees for recycling.

The sites will be open during normal office hours.

In the city, trees can be delivered to the Barna/Lough Rusheen city council depot on the Barna Road, and the Merlin Park depot in Doughiska. The service is available this week until Saturday, and from Monday January 7 to Friday January 11.

The recycling services costs €2, and customers will also have the option of availing of a bag of compost in return for their tree.

Galway County Council will operate recycling depots around the county from Monday January 7 to Tuesday January 15 in the following towns.

Athenry: waste water treatment plant, Prospect.

Ballinasloe: Canal Drive.

Clifden: Ball Alley, Beach Road.

An Cheathrú Rua: Oibrí Uisce water works.

Gort: council yard, George’s Street.

Loughrea: the pound in the Fairgreen.

Mountbellew: Black Quarry, Mountbellew – Ballinasloe Road (near the 50kph speed limit sign ).

Milltown: Galway County Council office.

Oughterard: car park.

Moycullen: council site on Mountain Road (400 metres up the Moycullen - An Spidéal road, on the right ).

Portumna: council yard (chip depot ), St Brigid’s Road.

Tuam: recycling centre, Athenry Road.

Headford: council yard beside the mart.

Oranmore: waste water pumping station, Coast Road.
