Walsh welcomes grants for Galway sports facilities

Almost half a million euro is to be invested in sports facilities in Galway city under the Regional Sports Capital Allocations, announced by Minister of State Michael Ring just before Christmas.

Dep Brian Walsh has welcomed the funding. “I have been working closely with Minister Ring on behalf of a number of local clubs and organisations in Galway city in relation to the administration of this funding programme over the past few months,” Dep Walsh said.

The funding includes grants for Mervue United, Connacht Rugby, and Galway and District League’s Eamonn Deacy Park.

“This follows the investment of over €800,000 in sports and leisure facilities in Galway that I announced in August of last year, and the allocation of €1.4 million to clubs and organisations across the county under the Sports Capital Programme earlier this month,” Dep Walsh added.

Connacht Rugby will receive €200,000 under the scheme for new changing facilities at the recently revamped Galway Sportsground, while Mervue United will receive €190,000 for an extension and resurfacing of the synthetic playing pitch at their home ground. Galway and District League will receive €60,000 for new dressing rooms and medical/physio rooms at Eamonn Deacy Park.
