Court appearance tomorrow after Barna Road crash leaves man seriously injured

A 31-year-old motorist will appear in Cloverhill court tomorrow (Friday ) in connection with last Sunday’s collision on the Barna Road in which a 21-year-old man was seriously injured.

Marius Strelciunas with an address at 132 Manor Court in Knocknacarra appeared before a special sitting of Galway District Court on Christmas Eve.

At the sitting, he was remanded in custody, with consent to bail, following a weekend crash in the Knocknacarra area in which a pedestrian was seriously injured.

He was charged with one count of alleged dangerous driving contrary to Section 53 of the Road Traffic Act.

His arrest followed a collision on the Barna Road at 1.40 during which a 21-year-old man was struck by a car while walking.

Strelciunas has been remanded in custody with consent to bail to appear before Cloverhill District Court tomorrow Friday (Dec 28 ).

Gardai in Salthill are appealing for witnesses to the serious road traffic collision at Knocknacarra.

“On Sunday at approximately 1.40 a.m. a male pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on the Barna Road at Knocknacarra.

“He was taken by Ambulance to University College Hospital Galway where he remains in a serious condition.

Marius Strelciunas was arrested at the scene and was initially detained at Salthill Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
