Patrick Towers honoured by the Rotary Foundation

Patrick Towers, the former rector of St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, has been made a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation.

Rev Towers was presented with the honour at the Galway Rotary Club’s recent annual Christmas dinner at the Meyrick Hotel.

Rev Towers, an outstanding religious, cultural, and community leader in the city, has served as the chair of New Generations and vice president of the Rotary Club of Galway. He is a board member of COPE Galway, the NUI Galway Research Ethics Committee, and Aids West.

The Paul Harris Fellowship, created in memory of Rotary’s founder, serves as a way for Rotary to show appreciation for members’ contributions to the foundation’s international charitable and educational programmes.

Contributions from Rotary members have allowed Rotary to become a leading private sector contributor and volunteer for the worldwide eradication of polio. In partnership with several international health organisations, Rotary has contributed more than $800 million to the cause
