Galway football referee Peter Flaherty has won this year’s FAI’s Referee of the Year award.
Flaherty, a native of Carraroe, was presented with the award by FAI chief executive John Delaney at an awards ceremony in Donegal.
A member of the Galway Football Association, Flaherty, who has been a referee since 1996, has been officiating at League of Ireland level for 12 years.
Local FAI referee assessor Eamon Lynch says the award is a reflection of the prestige with which Galway referees are perceived nationally.
“To be the only referee selected, says it all. Peter has been a very dedicated referee over the years and it is great to see his hard work rewarded,” said Eamon Lynch.
