Katelyn Molloy, a Leaving Cert student from Cregmore, Claregalway has qualified for the semi-final stages of the All-Ireland Music Competition where a recording contract and representation at TMI awaits the winning act. Seventeen year-old Katelyn, a cousin of pop star Una Healy of The Saturdays will be contesting for a place in the final at the West County Hotel, Ennis, Co Clare on January 4 where she will have to battle against 15 other competitors in the penultimate stages of the competition.
The final will be held on January 5 and those who make the final round of the contest will be decided by a judging panel of Mercury Music winner Gemma Hayes and former Eurovision winner Paul Harrington. Ms Molloy has strong links with the world of musical and stage performance as well as making television appearances. She was a finalist in the Connaught stage of Teen Idol at 14 and qualified for the final the following year. She was also a prominent feature in the ‘Our School’s Got Talent’ competition, reaching the final twice. She performed in the Renmore Pantomine circuit and has been a member of the Performing Arts School in Galway for the past five years and at only five, she appeared on the hit Irish TV show, ‘It’s a Family Affair’.
Ms Molloy’s family is steeped in music and her most notable connection to that industry is her first cousin, and member of The Saturdays girl group - Una Healy. Ms Molloy is evidently passionate about pursuing her ambitions to be a singing sensation. She has performed on stage alongside Irish country star Declan Nerney as well as having her vocal skills featured in her uncle Ollie Keogh’s band.
