A 42-year-old Oughterard man has been sent forward for trial charged with dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to a woman earlier this year.
Monday’s sitting of Galway District Court heard how a book of evidence had been served on John Folan with an address at The Orchard, Oughterard, Galway. Folan is charged with dangerous driving causing serious harm to Stella Hoffman at Headford Road on January 15, 2012, contrary to Section 53 (2 )(a ) of the Road Traffic Act.
The accused man is further charged with dishonestly by deception inducing Axa Insurance Ltd, Wolfe Tone Square, Dublin, to pay up to €3,043.73 as a result of a false claim made on January 16, 2012, with the intention of causing loss, contrary to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud ) Act 2001.
Inspector Ernie Whyte told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the matter being sent forward for trial at the next sittings of Galway Circuit Criminal Court commencing February 19 next.
