THE AMERICAN soprano Marcy Richardson will make her debut Irish performance in Handel’s Messiah in Galway Cathedral on Friday December 21.
Marcy enjoys an active career in New York and has performed at the Lincoln Centre and Carnegie Hall. She has also performed Messiah throughout the US, including a live TV broadcast with the Orlando Philharmonic, Florida.
She will be joined by counter tenor Jonathan Peter Kenny, a baroque specialist at London’s Royal College of Music’s Opera School, who has performed in Covent Garden, the Glyndebourne Festival, and the BBC Proms.
Galway’s Tribal Chamber Choir will perform the Messiah choruses such as the ‘Hallelujah Chorus and the lesser known pieces such as ‘Let Us Break Their Bonds Asunder’. Regular guest soloist with Tribal Chamber Choir Eoin Hynes and Brendan Collins will sing the tenor and bass roles on the night.
The orchestra will be led by the Con Tempo String Quartet. Other performers include the Cathedral organist, Raymond O’Donnell, bassoonist Michael Dooley, and Terry Cooke on timpani.
