Martin Dyar to launch debut poetry collection

MARTIN DYAR, the award winning poet, playwright, actor, singer, and songwriter, launches his debut poetry collection in Galway this weekend.

Maiden Names, will be launched in The Kenny Bookshop and Gallery, this Saturday at 1pm. The guest speaker will be NUI Galway law lecturer Donncha O’Connell.

The book is published by Arlen House, and managing editor Alan Hayes believes it “introduces a powerful young poet already widely heralded as a major emerging voice in Irish literature”. The poet Bernard O’Donoghue has called Maiden Names a “thrilling new development in Irish poetry”.

Martin is a winner of the Patrick Kavanagh Award. He lectures in the School of Medicine at TCD, and was recently appointed director of the Strokestown International Poetry Festival.

Limited edition numbered and signed hardback copies of Maiden Names will be available at the launch.

The award-winning Sligo-based poet Peggy Gallagher will also be launching a new collection of poetry, Tilth, on the day. All are welcome.
