Grants allocated for flood mitigation in Gort

More than €37,000 is to be allocated for flood mitigation work in the Gort area, with part of that going towards the first phase of an environmental assessment at Termon, Gort.

The money is being provided to the Galway County Council under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme and has been approved by the Office of Public Works.

Of the €37,000, €22,500 is being provided to replace culverts and maintain drains at Peterswell, Gort, while €15,715 is for the first phase of the assessment at Termon.

The news has been welcomed by Galway East TD Paul Connaughton.

“Continued investment in flood mitigation works is vital in the south Galway region, given the devastation that region suffered in 2009,” he said. “Work is ongoing on a number of projects aimed at alleviating the threat of flooding in the region.”
