Empowering programme helped Connemara woman reclaim her life after having ME for twelve years

A 31-year-old County Galway woman who suffered from ME for 12 years credits her recovery from chronic fatigue syndrome to what she terms an empowering programme which transformed her health.

Niamh Connolly from Ballinahown in Connemara says she is so passionate about the Lightning Process that she has trained as a practitioner in a bid to help others dealing with a number of diverse conditions to “reclaim their lives just as I did”.

She first became ill as a teenager experiencing recurring streptococcalthroat infections. She says they “came and went” but she was left with persistent symptoms of muscle weakness, tiredness, joint pain, dizziness and nausea. Eventually she was diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME ) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS ).

“I spent the next 12 years of my life enduring this illness. The worst was the persistent muscle fatigue, doing the simplest, smallest tasks would exhaust me and leave me in pain for days - climbing the stairs in my house often felt like climbing a mountain.”

Her symptoms varied in severity over the years however the illness never really went away. “I tried my best to pace myself and prioritise activities so that I could manage what little energy I had,” she says. “However I rarely passed up an outing or event and often ended up paying the price for it.”

She tried different treatments and alternative therapies throughout her illness with little success. She heard about the Phil Parker Lightning Process from a family friend.

“I did my research and after careful consideration I decided to go for it. I had resigned myself to the fact that I was stuck with my illness but there suddenly appeared to be a light at the end of my dark tunnel.”

She says the three day training programme was the “most amazing” experience of her life. “I learned all about the incredible influence that I have on my health and I found a way out of ME. I instantly felt better after day one and at the end of the three day training I was walking miles and feeling incredible, something I hadn’t been able to do in years.”

Niamh went on to train to become a Lightning Process Practitioner - she is the only one in the Republic of Ireland.

“It truly was a turning point in my life. I am so passionate about it that I decided to train as a practitioner so that I could teach others how to reclaim their lives, just as I did. For more than 10 years the Phil Parker Lightning Process® has helped thousands of people transform their health and lives.

“It is an empowering three day training course which teaches individuals how they can influence their health and life using techniques based on the way the brain and body interact. Clients explore the science behind how beliefs and behaviour patterns can affect lives and health and discover how to turn these into a complete strategy for success. The Lightning Process builds on the philosophies and research of neuro-linguistic programming, osteopathy and life coaching.”

She claims it can benefit people suffering from a number of conditions, including CFS/ME, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, irritable bowel syndrome and digestive issues, food and chemical intolerances, weight loss, eating disorders, addiction, anxiety and panic attacks, stress and struggle, low self-esteem and self-doubt, obsesstive compulsive disorder and depression.

Niamh Connoly will give a free one hour talk on the process on Sunday at the Harbour Hotel, New Dock Road at 2pm. Places are limited so people are asked to contact her to register their interest. Telephone (087 ) 1831883 or log onto www.truenorthpractice.ie or email [email protected]
