Public meeting tonight to call for national strike

A public meeting, to be held in Galway tonight, will argue the case for holding a 24-hour national strike, in opposition to tax hikes and austerity.

A spokesperson for the organisers said the meeting is being called following the national demonstration in Dublin on November 24.

“The overwhelming desire of the march was for a generalisation of the struggle – for a ‘joining of the dots’ so that one group is not picked off by the Government while others are lined up for attack later,” the spokesperson said. “This desire was reflected in the demand for a general strike.”

The meeting takes place in Richardson’s Bar at 8pm. It is organised by the Socialist Workers Party and admission is free. All are welcome.
