GOAL offers recession-friendly Christmas presents

Aid agency GOAL will stage a two-day Christmas sale at Matt O’Flaherty’s Chemist Shop in Barna on December 13 and 14.

On sale at reasonable prices will be clothes and accessories, such as shoes, handbags and purses. The sale will take place each day from 11am to 6pm.

Also available for purchase will be the official GOAL 2012 Christmas gifts, which will also be on sale in Eyre Square Shopping Centre on Friday December 14 from 10am to 6pm.

GOAL west of Ireland representative, Maura Lennon, says in these times of recession, people are looking for value for money, particularly at Christmas.

“ With this in mind, we have decided to make available for sale a collection of clothes and accessories. At least 90 per cent of the items that we will be selling are new, so I would urge people to come along and see what we have to offer. All proceeds will go towards our work in the developing world.”

GOAL has recently begun delivering aid to displaced families in war-torn Syria, bringing the number of countries where it operates to 13. There are at least 2.5 million people in Syria who are in dire need of assistance, she sayd, and the UN believes that figure will rise to four million by the New Year.

Also available during the two days will be a catalogue of GOAL 2012 Christmas gifts for families in the developing world.

“A relatively small sum will buy a family a mosquito net, drought resistant seeds, or a hygiene kit. Such small items can mean the difference between life and death in the developing world.”
