A Christmas concert in support of Lily Mae Morrison and the Sunni Mae Trust will take place in the Galway Cathedral on Tuesday December 18 at 8pm.
Entitled The Gift, The show is organised by Galway woman Keara Sheeran and will be an hour long interpretation of the Nativity sung in a lively gospel style.
“The beauty of The Gift is that everyone who gets involved either as a singer or as a member of the audience gets something from it,” she says. “This series of concerts really lends itself to people getting out in the evenings and doing something that gives something back to those most in need. It is in itself the essence of Christmas.”
Keara plans to make The Gift an annual Christmas event in Galway’s calendar. In the last three years, previous Gift concerts have raised more than €18,000 for Abalta, Slí Éile, the Galway Hospice, Ability West, Galway Discovery, the Holy Family school for special needs.
This year she hopes to raise upwards of €20,000 for Galway charities, with proceeds from the Cathedral show going to the Sunni Mae Trust for children affected by neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer.
Other performances of The Gift take place in The Jesuit Church from December 19 to 21 and in the Salthill Hotel on December 22.T ickets are €10 available from the Cathedral and the Jesuit community office behind the Jesuit church on Sea Road, or from Keara Sheeran on 087 - 9007003.
The Gift concert in aid of Galway Autism Partnership is on December 20 at 8pm in The Jes church. Tickets for this show will also be available in the Galway Shopping Centre.
