The Galway City Council’s Christmas park and ride service returns for its eighth year on Saturday December 1 at 7am.
Customers wishing to use the service should follow the directional signage to the Galway Racecourse at Ballybrit, where buses will be on hand to carry passengers to the city centre every 15 minutes.
Monday to Saturday the service will operate from 7am to 9.30pm and on Sundays buses will run from 11am to 7pm. The Galway Transportation Unit highlights that the service is particularly suitable for those travelling to Galway along the M6, N6, N17, N18 and Monivea roads.
The GTU also point out that given it’s early morning start, the park and ride service is also an option for those travelling these routes en route to work in the city centre. With the buses taking advantage of the Dublin Road bus lanes, the service offers shorter journey times to its drop off point at Fairgreen Road, a two minute walk from Eyre Square.
The cost of the service will be €2 per car regardless of the number of passengers in the car, making it one of the best rates on offer in the city. The price of the service is set at this rate to induce as many people as possible to park at Galway Racecourse.
The GTU is also encouraging the public, where possible, to leave the car at home and avail of the different promotional fares and initiatives taking place, aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Galway during the Christmas season.
Customers of Iarnród Éireann travelling to Galway from Athenry, Ardrahan, Craughwell and Gort stations can avail of free car parking from tomorrow. Bus Éireann is offering €10 return fares from numerous towns in County Galway.
The GTU is also encouraging parents, teachers and schoolchildren to support An Taisce’s Green School Travel to walk, bus, cycle, park’n’stride or carpool to school in the run up to Christmas.
