New counter service hours in the Galway City Council’s housing department are to come into effect on Monday November 26.
Following a detailed analysis of existing counter services, it is proposed to adjust counter services to 1pm to 4pm daily. The council believes this will enable housing staff to concentrate on “substantive duties between the hours of 9am and 1pm” while servicing the counter for the remaining hours.
Also, a MITEL phone management system has been fully implemented ensuring that customers are directed to the most appropriate member of staff.
A document outlining these changes to the Mayor and the councillors, said it should “further strengthen the capacity of the Housing Department to react to the existing and future challenges”.
While general counter services will be reduced, access to homeless services will not be curtailed and access to other services may be facilitated by appointment outside the new counter services hours. The usual documentation and forms will be available during normal opening hours at City Hall.
