Baile an Salsa - where Latin meets trad

BAILE AN Salsa, an exciting new Galway band, who fuse Irish trad with Salsa, will hold their debut gig in Monroe’s Live this Saturday at 9.30pm.

The band features nine musicians from six different countries who all share a passion for the music of Latin America and Ireland.

The band leader is singer Andres Martorell, who is originally from Montevideo in Uruguay. After almost eight years of playing regular, live band, salsa nights in Galway and developing an interest in Irish trad, Andres began to discuss an idea with friends about fusing the two styles.

Italian Alan Preims, a salsa percussion player joined in, as did the Seattle born, trad violinist, Michael Chang (also a member of Tradiohead ). The line-up was completed by percussionist Rags Ferguson, pianist Brid Dunne, and accordionist Ger Chambers, all from Ireland; Briton Peter Brazier on mandolin and guitar; and Cuban percussionist Frailan Moran.

Baile an Salsa’s songs are mainly originals composed by the band blended with traditional Irish tunes.

Tickets are available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
