Former Superleague side Ulster Elks come to Galway on Saturday night (7pm ) to take on an improving Galway Titans.
The Ulster outfit, coached by former Titans’ head Pat O'Neill, arrive in Renmore after a big win in overtime against St Mary’s Castleisland. However the biggest concern for coach O’Neill coming to Galway is the team’s current lack of post-play and committed rebounders. Conor “CJ” Johnson, a small-forward, is having to carry the load in the paint, while the Elks wait on the arrival of big-man, Matt Graves, who is sidelined due to the 90-day residency rule, and the Titans will be looking to capitalise.
Titans, also awaiting the clearance of Andre Tongo, overcame Kilkenny in their last outing, but they will need big boards from Taofik Mustapha, Ginteras Sedebskis; and defensive stalwarth Glen Hynes. Paulius Peldzius will be expected to deliver the points, aided by Lautauro Fabricius, Seamus Garrity and Brendan Barile who will threaten from outside.
The home side will be looking for their third win of the men’s division one southern conference in a game which will be televised by Setanta Sport with local man and Moycullen player Cian Nihill providing the analysis.
New boys face
seasoned Moycullen
In a new venture for Titans Basketball Club, an u-20 team will contest this year’s National Cup and they come up against seasoned campaigners Moycullen in the first round.
The two will meet on Sunday at the Renmore Community Centre (3pm ) in a game Moycullen are expected to win.
Moycullen boasts players who have been successful at local and national level in schools, club and, more recently, the National League, while Titans, have brought together youngsters from Dughiska, Ballybane, Westside, Knocknacarra, Ballinfoyle, Claregalway in this first venture.
The new u-20 team is part of the club’s aims to develop teenage players for the long term athlete development programme.
