Better bus service on the way for Salthill/Knocknacarra

More buses are to be introduced in Galway to service the Salthill and Knocknacarra areas over the next three years, according to Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey.

The move follows representations to Bus Éireann by Dep Fahey, calling on the company to introduce a “higher frequency service” for the areas.

Bus Éireann commissioned a feasibility study of services in the west side of Galway city with consultants Capita Symonds and it is understood the report recommends introducing a service every 10 to 15 minutes.

Dep Fahey has asked Bus Éireann to consider include an extension to Barna in the improved services and that it should be synchronised to suit the timetables of children attending primary and secondary schools.

He said adequate bus shelters are required in Salthill and Knocknacarra to improve the quality of service for commuters.
