Connemara local heroes rewarded for voluntary work

Twenty-seven local heroes were rewarded for their contributions to voluntary work in the community by the Connemara Chamber of Commerce.

The award recipients represented a broad range of locations from InishNee to Roundstone, Clifden, Cleggan, Claddaghduff, Letterfrack, InishBofin, Renvyle and Cashel. The Chamber also presented awards to volunteers in the Clifden RNLI Station, the Connemara RFC, and the local Niamh Feichin GAA Club.

The Chamber has also awarded legendary broadcaster Tony Fenton with the Freedom of Connemara and Clifden. The chamber said Mr Fenton had been a great ambassador for the area for more than 25 years. He was transported by horse and carriage from Main Street Clifden to Abbeyglen Castle where he was officially inaugurated as a Freeman of Connemara.
