Entrance to Castle Park must be widened, says O’Flaherty

The entrance to the Castle Park estate, opposite the SCULL centre, is becoming a bottleneck and must be widened before a serious accident occurs there.

This is the view of Independent Cllr Terry O’Flaherty who has contacted the Galway City Council’s senior engineers requesting them to prioritise this project.

Last year Cllr Terry O’Flaherty called for funding for work to widen the entrance to the Castle Park estate, opposite the SCULL centre. She was later informed by director of services Ciaran Hayes that funding for improvements was being considered in the preparation for the 2008 budget.

“I am calling on the city council to carry out the necessary work on the widening of this entrance in order to prevent a more serious accident occurring there,” she said. “It is almost 18 months now since I first lobbied for it
