Loughrea teenager launches cookbook to raise funds for children of Russia

Thirteen-years-old Alex McLoughlin is launching a children’s cookbook to raise money for The Children of Russia Fund.

The book, entitled Russian to the Kitchen, will be launched at Westside Library, Galway on Wednesday October 24 from 6.30 to 8pm.

Alex, a native of Russia, hopes to gather some much-needed funds for children in orphanages in Russia, as well as introducing Irish children to Russian cuisine.

The Children of Russia Fund is a charity set up by adoptive parents in Ireland to help children in Russian orphanages who will not be adopted.

On November 2 Alex will travel to Dublin to compete in the “Easy Food” national competition. Alex was selected from more than ,500 entrants of all ages to compete in this prestigious event.

His entry is a recipe from “Russian to the Kitchen”. He will prepare one of his dishes before a panel of judges and will finish the evening off at a gala dinner in the Shelbourne Hotel where the lucky winner will be announced.

Copies of Russian to the Kitchen are currently on sale at €10 at Charlie Byrnes book shop, Galway city, News & Choose, or School & Office Supplies, Loughrea.
