THE SUMBRELLAS, a Galway based band led by an American and an Italian, will launch their debut album with a gig in the Townhouse Bar tomorrow night.
American singer-songwriter Chris White and Italian fiddle player Fede Betti met in Galway about three years ago and formed The Sumbrellas with Emmet O’Malley. Emmet left to pursue other interests and in 2011 Chris and Fede added Irish musicians Finbar and Flossie, and together the quartet play an energetic and infectious mix of acoustic rock, old time country, and Kentucky stomp, driven by sweet harmonious interplay and musical sparring.
The band’s debut album, Fast Country Music Disco, showcases the many sides of the band’s approach, whether it be the rockabilly groove of ‘Beautiful In Rags’ or the quieter songs that close the album.
