Galway youngsters in the medals

Galway kickboxers were once again on the winning podium at the IKF Junior National Kickboxing Championships in Kilkenny on Sunday.

Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club’s Alex Fitzpatrick from Tuam defended his boys’ u-10 title after winning four fights in a row (three by stoppage ) against opponents from all over Ireland, while Josh Mc Hugh won the boyd’ u-8 crown, also after four fights.

Davina Clancy took silver in the cadet girls’ 57kg section after a hard-fought three rounds, while Faith Foley took silver in the u-8 girls’ section, having moved up from u-6 because of a lack of competition in her own age group.

In a novice senior adults tournament, Tara Rothwell defeated Majella Connelly from Thurles by unanimous decision and Gerry King defeated Keith Leahy from the Phoenix Kickboxing Club in Tullamore by TKO in round two.
